TF11.15 Great Barrier Reef Foundation partnership - Reef Islands Partnership
Project aim: The Queensland Government is investing $3 million in matched funding over three years from 2018 to support the Great Barrier Reef Foundation’s Reef Islands Initiative (RII) Project which will establish a network of climate change refuges across five Reef islands. Lady Elliot Island is one of these Reef islands, and the first focus of the project. In total, the project will see $14 million invested in a tailored program of on-ground and in-water restoration and conservation actions to help protect the Great Barrier Reefs most precious landscapes and seascapes as critical habitat for species in the face of climate change. The program builds on the successful Raine Island Recovery Project (turtle focus). Other key partners include the Aust Govt (with GBRMPA involved), Qld Parks and Wildlife Service. Additional investment has come from Aust Govt ($5Mill) and Lendlease ($5Mill), and private investors.
