Cane Best Management Practice Project Phase 3
This project will continue to support the delivery (extension, education and training) of the Smartcane BMP program to cane growers in Queensland reef catchments, enabling growers to assess and verify their farming practice standards and to evaluate and implement ongoing practice changes. Benefits include improved farm productivity, enhanced industry reputation, and reduced risk to reef water quality, all of which contribute to healthy local economies.
In this project, emphasis will be placed on practice change, providing data to Paddock to Reef, benchmarking growers’ practices and achieving accreditation. Extension, education and training will be key. A strong focus will continue on progressing those growers that have completed benchmarking, to achieve accreditation in the Smartcane BMP program.
This 3rd phase of funding provides an opportunity for CANEGROWERS to explore and pursue options for resourcing future BMP delivery, noting that the available funding is less in the final year of this phase.
