The Australian National Botanic Gardens Seed Bank (ANBG), located in Canberra, is host to a large and diverse collection of Australian native seeds. The ANBG is the representative institution for the Commonwealth and the Australian Capital Territory on the Australian Seed Bank Partnership.
ANBG staff work in collaboration with the Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research on extending the breadth of knowledge on Australian plant species. They also work with researchers from the Australian National University, investigating Australian alpine seed and seedling ecology.
The ANBG has focused seed collecting efforts on plant species endemic to the alpine, sub-alpine and grassland regions surrounding Canberra. It has also recently started work on strategies to build collections from the Commonwealth National Parks, especially the biodiverse islands of Norfolk and Christmas.
