Description

The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) Echinoderm Collection was established in 1981 and consists of about 3600 databased specimens and additional material that is not yet registered. The majority of the specimens have been collected from locations in Northern Australia. The collection includes 3 holotypes and 20 paratypes.

Specimens can be lent to workers at other institutions upon application and the MAGNT also welcomes visiting researchers.

Taxonomic range

One of the collection’s strengths is the Holothuroidea. The collection also contains material from all the major Echinoderm classes from tropical Australia.

Geographic range

Mostly from the Northern Territory with some material from northern Western Australia and Queensland.
